Hero Highlight: Solidia
Companies and Leaders, Doing Right By Their Customers and Employees
Concrete is everywhere--our sidewalks, our buildings, and even our swimming pools. It’s hard to imagine a world without concrete. Each year, the production of cement (concrete’s key ingredient) emits more than two billion tons of CO2, or about 8 percent of global CO2 emissions. That is a substantial number. That’s why Solidia is helping reduce concrete carbon emissions by 70% with their innovative concrete alternative. Solidia is a cement and concrete technology company, offering patented green solutions that make it easy and profitable to use CO2 to create superior, sustainable building materials. Concrete has gone high tech!
Companies are having to pivot, innovate, and get creative. Some are leading by example. Each week at reachXOD, we highlight companies who are going above and beyond to connect to their employees and customers during a time of uncertainty. Solidia is doing it’s part to combat emissions while creating innovative products that are changing the concrete industry.
Founded in 2013, Founder and CEO Tom Schuler and his team have been working to create a green cement to reduce the amount of CO2 the material releases into the environment. When the Solidia team realized that nearly 7% of the world's greenhouse gas emissions is coming from concrete, they formed Solidia with a mission to reduce that number and make a positive impact. The New Jersey-based company uses a patented process to address this emission problem, replacing limestone with a synthetic material that requires lower temperatures and less energy than traditional methods. We are talking about game-changing and environment-improving innovation! The cement absorbs CO2 as it hardens, all of which amounts to a production process with a much smaller carbon footprint.
It comes as no shock that the Global Green Cement Market, which Solidia is proudly a part of, was valued $15B in 2017 and is anticipated to reach $38B by 2026. Not only is the industry growing, but their technology is pushing the construction industry forward. Concrete, which typically takes about three to seven days to set after it’s poured, is now reaching its final hardness in less than 24 hours with Solidia. This means less time waiting, more time constructing. We can’t wait to continue to see what innovations Solidia continues to develop.
At reachXOD, we admire Solidia as a business that is making bold moves to combat carbon emissions and revolutionizing the concrete industry. Solidia is showing us what daring action looks like, making their company about more than just profit.
