Hero Highlight: Airtable
Companies and Leaders, Doing Right By Their Customers and Employees
The power of a database with the familiarity of a spreadsheet. Airtable is a company looking to disrupt how we share data and become the next Apple or Microsoft-- yes, they’ve said that, and we love their confidence and passion! Companies are having to pivot, innovate, and get creative this year, more than ever. Some are leading by example. Each week at reachXOD, we highlight companies who are going above and beyond to connect to their employees and customers during a time of uncertainty. Airtable is changing the way we share information at work. No more Google Sheets. This is a totally innovative, easy, and beautiful way to have all your information in one place.
Founded in 2012 by Howie Liu, Andrew Ofstad, and Emmett Nicholas in San Francisco, Airtable set out to create a spreadsheet-database hybrid, with the features of a database but applied to a spreadsheet. Their mission is simple: to democratize software creation by enabling anyone to build the tools that meet their needs. Over 80 high profile companies are now using Airtable for their data sharing needs, from Netflix to Tesla and even Time magazine. Explaining the company and it’s concept to investors in the early days was no easy task--the founders had to push through the obstacle of having such an innovative idea. Now, Airtable has grown to over $1B, based on its latest round of funding, despite only having a product on the market for the last five years.
“Airtable was founded on the belief that software shouldn’t dictate how you work—you should dictate how it works.” They pride themselves in the fact that their product is so easy that people who typically don't have coding skills can set up complex cloud systems. Making this a product that will most likely continue to grow and reach new markets.
At reachXOD, we admire Airtable as a business and brand. We are a company that helps businesses innovate, and we are impressed with Airtable’s bold take on data products that people use every day. Take initiative. Be proactive and transparent. Be human. Look for the heroes. Learn from their journeys.
